Walking Plow

walking plow Though we have chosen to place this walking plow in the garden display it could have been used in any field on the farm. A team would generally pull the plow and in fact this plow has been used to plow the garden for the 2001 growing season at Cottonwood House. A man and team could plow between one and two acres in a day.

plow share

This closeup of the plow share and moldboard shows a fairly standard, general purpose plow and is not much different from most tractor plows these days. Note that this plow has a steel beam which indicates that it is a later purchase than the woodbeam plow.
