Potato Digger

potato digger The potato digger was a follow-up on the labour saving properties of the hiller. In this case the broad plow share cut below the potatoes, pushing them out to either side. In addition the round tongs attached to the plow would vibrate strongly as the plow cut through the harder layers of soil. The vibrating action would therefore shake out a great deal of the dirt leaving the larger potatoes exposed and easy to pick up.
