The Series
The material history of British Columbia has resulted from both resident production and import. The former has often combined local materials and circumstances to produce completely new products, or adapted existing technology, technique or goods to the province’s unique setting. The latter reflects an emerging integration and efficiency of goods supply through improved communication and transportation links. The purpose of this modest series is to feature the former---those items unique to the province or locally adapted to particular circumstances or regions within it. In many ways the works are catalogues that will hopefully be of value and use to collectors, curators and others. With luck, each topic will be expanded considerably by its mere publication. By and large, British Columbia’s material history is untold. It is hoped this series will move to remedy that situation. Published in co-operation with the Royal British Columbia Museum, Ministry of Small Business, Tourism and Culture. Part of the Living Landscapes Thompson-Okanagan: Past, Present and Future project. |
