Classification System

The Records Survey is organized hierarchically, e.g. for 18*25*03*01:

18 = Museums
25= Westbank Museum and Arts and Crafts Society, Collection
03= Westbank Irrigation District, Records (part of the Westbank Museum Collection)
01= Westbank Cooperative Users' Association, Records (part of the records of the Westbank Irrigation District)

Survey

The numbers accompanying each entry are not those used by the holders of the actual records to identify materials in their custody. They have been arbitrarily assigned for the purposes of the Survey.

Where no titles to holdings have existed they have been created.

"Other sources" refers to holders of associated archival material. Please note that the addresses of those surveyed are found in the Addresses of Custodians section.

Index

The index refers to geographic, corporate and personal names, as well as to subject headings.

The index was based on Library of Congress Subject Headings, Canadiana Subject Headings and Authorities, and the Provincial Archives of Alberta Subject Headings. Where appropriate, local subject headings have been used.

Due to the general scope of the survey and the unprocessed state of much of the material identified, index terms on the whole are broadly based and refer to the primary focus of the holdings.
