Robert Tomlinson Sr.

Robert Tomlinson Sr. was born in Dublin in 1842. He was both a doctor and a minister. As a young man, he set out to join William Duncan at Metlakatla in 1867. After a brief respite in Victoria to marry Alice Woods, he continued his missionary work at Kincolith, where their first son was born. He became so well known for his medicinal skills that the northern Tlingit came to Kincolith for treatment. In 1879, Tomlinson and his young family moved to Ankitlas, north of Hazelton to continue their work, building a model society. Here, they met with resistance to their work, although the family grew in the few years they were there. Finally, they continued onto Meanskinisht.
