Research Team and Acknowledgements

This project resulted from a partnership between the Royal British Columbia Museum, Northwest Community College Library and Archives, and the Terrace Women’s Resource Centre Society. The co-coordinators and editors of the project were Patti Barnes, NWCC Head Librarian (and former Pacific resident) and Mia Reimers, an historian and NWCC University Credit Instructor.

Two excellent student researchers, Erika Oborne and Carmen Stewart enthusiastically undertook the bulk of the research during the summer of 2005. Michael Thompson helped research and write additional material during the winter of 2005/06, and Rhonda Edgar assisted in the technical aspects of the project.

We also have to thank our field trip companions. To begin the research we traveled to Usk and Cedarvale one weekend, and on another, walked 11 kilometers on the railway track to reach Pacific. We relied on the keen driving and photography skills of Greg Barton and Shawn Stewart, and on Sheree Ronaasen’s bear savvy and bear horn (which came in handy once!). All three were also cheerful company.

We also thank Maureen Atkinson for her suggestions, Ann Peltier for her bookkeeping and recordkeeping skills, and the folks at the Cedarvale grill for the delicious food and hospitality, the Usk Ferry Captain for holding the ferry for us, and Mary Dalen for opening the village museum to us.

Finally, we must thank our informants who shared their time and memories with us: Mary Dalen, Phyllis Bowman, Otto Lindstrom, Bill and Helene McRae, Dieter Bahr, Dennis Horwill and Emil Froese.
