Bahr Family The Bahr family came to the area fifty years ago, and the first impressions they received from Old Remo were very favourable. The Bahr’s were one of only five families to settle at Old Remo. They were confronted with both the challenge and the opportunity of developing around one-thousand acres of wild land. The Bahr’s and the other four families worked as a co-operative; there was much to do developing the land and building the homes they would live in. With lumber from the Sande Lumber Mill in Terrace, they erected their homes and commenced using the land in earnest. A chicken house was built which boasted over 1,500 chickens which produced the eggs the Bahr’s would sell locally to the Terrace Co-op. After the challenge of clearing the land was accomplished, the Bahr’s planted the crops that would bring forth the produce they would sell fresh locally. They even made house calls to Kitimat each Friday until the 1970s. The Bahr family have been in business for almost 50 years, and many
people still come from all over the surrounding area to purchase their
produce. The durable and lasting nature of their business is the result
of some very dedicated and hard work. |
