Coenagrion resolutum (Taiga Bluet)

BC conservation rank: S5. Yellow List.
Description: Male's thorax has blue stripes on top, usually undivided; the underside is unmarked; abdominal segment 2 has a U-shaped black mark on top; appendages, fig. 3a. Female is blue to yellow-green or tan, marked with black; tops of segments 8 to 10 are black. Length: male 29 mm, female 30 mm.
Global Range: Alaska east to Labrador and Newfoundland; south to New York, Ohio, Nebraska, Colorado, Arizona and California (Westfall and May 1996). Faunal element: Widespread Boreal (see Appendix 2). BC Distribution: Widespread throughout the interior, almost absent from the coast. North to the arctic treeline.
Biology: Common throughout BC's interior but, in the South, mostly at higher elevations; extremely rare on the coast, it has not been found in the Lower Mainland, or on Vancouver Island. Lives in many types of habitats, but is most common in sedge marshes and peatlands (e.g., Wm01-02, 04; Wf01, 05-08; Wb13).
BC flight period: early May to early September; the vast majority of the records are from late May to early August.
