Libellula Linnaeus
The genus Libellula contains five large, striking species
in British Columbia and the Columbia Basin. Most have banded or
spotted wings, and in most species, the males sport white, pruinose
abdomens. They are showy insects, perching, hovering and skimming
over the waters of ponds and sluggish rivers. Females oviposit alone,
dipping the abdomen onto the water's surface.
