Archaeological Investigations at the Salmon Beds

Stratigraphy

The lowest sedimentary deposits encountered at the site consists of river deposited gravels (Figure 11,12).  This was encountered at slightly varying depths across the site ranging from 50 to 70 cm below surface.  The water table was typically encountered between 70 and 80 cm.  In one unit (10E0) water saturated tree-sized wood was encountered below the water table,  This  wood was likely river deposited and buried. Above the gravels were stratified sands and clays.  Cultural materials were encountered throughout the sands and clays.  Most of the materials were found from 0 to 40 cm with only small amounts of material below 40 cm.
