Ktunaxa Ethnobotany

Conclusions:

The Ktunaxa Ethnobotany Project has successfully completed its third year with no end in sight for research needs. Such a project is a major undertaking that requires adequate funds over a period of years as well as major commitment from the workers. There is great deal of trust building involved in oral history research; to build this trust takes time.   Interviews with Elders continue to be an ongoing process; no matter how often oral history sessions are held, the Elders represent a part of the collective wisdom of the culture, and they always have new valuable insights and information.

Some of the objectives for 2000 are as follows:

Continue oral history research;

Work towards the production of a detailed ethnobotanical guidebook for the Ktunaxa Nation;

Use ?akxamis qapi qapsin – All Living Things  for an increased role in the education of youth about Ktunaxa Ethnobotanical knowledge;

Work towards the Ktunaxa Territory Traditional Trek in the summer of 2000;

Continue working towards the opening of the ?aqam Indigenous Plant Nursery
