Group Doukhobor Values and Culture |
Introduction:
The West Kootenay Early Childhood Education Diversity Group has supported Ahna Berikoff Nazaroff in the production of this resource. Funding has been provided by the Columbia Basin Trust and the Royal British Columbia Museum as a “Living Landscapes” project.
With this resource book we hope to provide caregivers a tool that helps children learn about the Doukhobor culture in an enjoyable way. This includes both Doukhobor and non-Doukhobor children as it takes understanding of our different cultures to live harmoniously.
To compile this resource we have interviewed many Doukhobors, some formally, some informally, young, old and in between. We have also drawn on the personal experience of our families and committee members.
This book contains nursery rhymes, stories, Doukhobor history, a short play, anecdotes, songs, and a pattern to make the simple doll this is included as part of this resource.
The C.D. that accompanies this resource has the words to the songs in both Russian and English with transliterations using English letters representing Russian sounds.
The illustrations in this book are all originals by Ahna Berikoff.

Way of Life” is a lively and illustrated story of
